Yahoo! to Strengthen Investment in China

BEIJING, Jan 31, 2005 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO), an Internet service giant, showed its intention to put more efforts in research and development to better serve mobile phone users in China.

Yahoo! plans to make Hong Kong R&D center research on the thirdgeneration (3G) mobile telecom services and products, and then push 3G services market in China Mainland. With completion of infrastructure for next generation telecom, Yahoo! also intendsto strengthen the search engine, communication, and Internet auction businesses.

In December 2003, Yahoo! invested USD 120 million in acquiring Beijing 3721 Technology Co. Ltd., a pioneer and market leader in Chinese keyword searching market. The deal largely accelerated Yahoo!'s China operations.

Data shows that 3721.com has been serving over 90 of Internet users in China. Its daily traffic exceeds 30 million. The company also has around 4,000 channel partners in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao.

Jerry Yang, a co-founder of Yahoo!, revealed that the company is confident of being a market leader in China's Internet industry.

Statistics indicate that by June 2004, Internet users in China Mainland amounted to 8.7 million, and by October, mobile phone users topped 320 million.
