Fed: Govt has no information on second Aust Taliban fighter

The federal government says it has no information on reports of a second Australian
al-Qaeda fighter in Afghanistan.

The Australian newspaper reports that US broadcaster National Public Radio spoke to
a doctor named ALI who claims the Australian fighter has been abandoned in a Kandahar
hospital by fleeing Taliban forces.

The broadcaster reports Dr ALI saying one of the wounded al-Qaeda fighters is an Australian
with blue eyes.

However a spokeswoman for Attorney-General DARYL WILLIAMS says the government doesn't
have any information on a second Australian involved in the fighting in Afghanistan.
