WA: Work officially starts on $1.2 billion Mandurah rail link

PERTH, Feb 26 AAP - Work on the $1.2 billion project to link Perth and Mandurah by
rail officially began today at an extravagant launch by West Australian Premier Geoff
Gallop.

Dr Gallop gave the all clear for exploratory drilling to begin along the proposed route
for the controversial commuter line under Perth's CBD.

Despite fierce opposition to the project, Dr Gallop said today's launch meant there
was no turning back on the 75 km railway from the WA capital to the south-west city.
