Everyone is calm and collected, but the dispute over licensing seasonal employees at Saratoga Race Course is yet to be concluded.
About 100 pari-mutuel clerks, after meeting Wednesday morning with union officials and a state legislator, decided against a walkout to protest a $62 state licensing fee. The walkout could have caused massive disruption to Wednesday afternoon's races.
But whether the clerks -- along with hundreds of bartenders, waiters and porters -- eventually have to pay is uncertain.
Employees and union representatives say no. The state Racing and Wagering Board says yes.
